Very Easy Lacy Pattern Stitch

When I want to knit something quick and easy, I usually use just knit a purl stitches. But there are sometimes pattern stitches that are just as easy as simple "knit-purl" knitting.

The pattern stitch introduced here in this post is really easy even for someone that just learned four basics knitting tasks - cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch and bind off. This beautiful pattern is easy, yet looks complicated. But do not be fooled - it is not.

It is worked on multiple of 4 stitches around, OR multiple of 4 stitches (+ 1 or more stitches for each edge), and over 4 rows. In the video (see below) I used worsted yarn (medium #4).

Here is the pattern:

CO 20 sts.

Row 1&3      K20
Row 2&4      K2, P16, K2

Row 5      K all (= 20 sts)
Row 6      K2 (= 2 edge sts), *[P4, YO]* - 4x; K2 (= edge sts)
Row 7      K2 (= 2 edge sts), *[YO, drop next st = YO from prev row, sl next st knitwise, K3, pull the sl st over 3 knitted sts]* - 4x; K2 (= 2 edge sts)
Row 8      K2 (= 2 edge sts), P16, K2 (= 2 edge sts)

Repeat these 4 rows for the pattern. I repeated these 4 rows four times. Then I finished the square with Rows 1-4 (= Rows 9-11); and then BO in row 12.
