Marigolds By The Lake - Baby Set

MISTI ALPACA - a wonderfully soft yarn for any baby project. This is a sock yarn, but it is so soft that any baby will love to wear it. The yarn is 50% Alpaca, 30% Merino, 10% silk, and 10% Nylon. You cannot go wrong.

I am a big fan - look for a video where I will show you my niece's baby wearing the hat, gloves, and socks I knitted as a gift.

Should you want to knit it yourself here is a link to a free pattern in my RAVELRY SHOP.

Enjoy.

Crocheted Mittens For Adults Medium Size - Free Pattern

These Mittens are medium size
I never crocheted mittens. These were my first and I think they came out pretty great. These are really quite easy - I used only chain, single crochet stitch, sc decrease and slip stitch to make these. All crocheted in the round.
Those red thumbs are quite something - I keep looking at them... and don't forget - "keep your fingers busy to keep many fingers warm" :-)

Knitted Long Mittens For Small Hand

Knitted adult mittens - small size
About a year ago I knitted fingerless gloves. In the winter time, when the room is not as warm as in summer, my hands get cold - especially my right hand while I am typing and using a mouse when I work on my computer. So my fingerless gloves get very handy. Actually I made a video too (for righties) and it is becoming one of my popular ones.

Few days ago I decided to knit mittens, which are based on my fingerless gloves. They are very simple and basic (and plentiful long). Actually, I consider them "an introduction into knitting mittens". After you master the basics, you can venture onto more complex mittens with cables or fair isle motifs.

These mittens are small - perfect for small adult or youth hands.
Enjoy and share with your friends and family. Spread the love for knitting and crocheting.
And if you live in a cold area, stay warm.

Adjustments for bigger sizes:

Medium size:
If you would like to knit these for a medium sized hands - CO 2 to 4 stitches more, which will reflect in the number of stitches for the palm. Knit 2-4 rows more before decreasing for BO. The thumb increase stay same. But you may knit 1-4 rows more for longer a thumb, before you decrease and BO.

Large Size:
If you would like to knit these for a large sized hands (depending on the size of large hands) - CO 5 to 8 stitches more, which will reflect in the number of stitches for the palm. Knit 4-8 rows more before decreasing for BO. The thumb increase - add 1-2 extra increases, which will bring you to 15-17 sts for the thumb (before you place it on a thick yarn). Then knit 4-8 rows more for a longer thumb, before you decrease and BO.

Crocheted Simple Fingerless Gloves S/M

I bought me some Fisherman's Wool. Yeah. And as I crochet with it I occasionally smell it, 'cause it smells like nature. It smells really nice. It is not the softest yarn I ever worked with, but if you wear something under it it doesn't matter if it is not soft like cashmere. I made some baby slippers/booties with it (stay tuned for these, if interested). And here you have semi-lacy crocheted fingerless gloves - or rather hand warmers with holes. Yeah, hand warmers with holes is the expression that describes it pretty well.

It is a very simple lacy design, and basically same repetition through out the entire work. Easy-peasy, as some would say.

So, if you would like to try, get yourself some medium size #4 yarn. If you do not like Fisherman's Wool you may rather buy something softer for yourself. You could also combine a #3 "DK yarn" (cream color) with #1 "Fingering yarn" (dark brown).

So, if you would like to crochet along my video - see two links below:

Basic Fingerless Gloves For An Adult

In the past I have made many fingerless gloves. They are really great for working on the computer in cold offices, or using your key without need of taking your gloves off. These gloves have no special design so they are fairly easy to knit. If you use a nice wool, you can make yourself really nice pair of gloves in just few hours. In the car, when we were traveling (my husband was driving) it took me one and a half hours to knit one glove. I use the continental style to knit, so it is a little quicker than the English one. So if you are intermediate knitter you could have pair of these gloves finished in 4-5 hours.

You can either follow my written pattern (below) or knit along with my video. Happy knitting and crocheting :-)

To knit these gloves you need to know how to:

  • cast on
  • do a knit stitch
  • do a purl stitch
  • knit two stitches together
  • increase stitches
  • bind off
If you buy a really nice wool for let's say $5-$20 (depending where you buy it and what kind of wool), you could make someone happy with a beautiful gift.

Abreviations:
DPN - double pointed needles
CO - cast on
st(s) - stitch(es)
K - knit stitch
P - purl stitch
K2tog - knit two stitches together
m1R - make one stitch right slanted (pick a running yarn between stitches by inserting needle from back and knit regularly
m1L - make one stitch left slanted (pick a running yarn between stitches by inserting needle from front and knit through the back loop
BO - bind off

Materials used:
Yarn: Patons, Classic Wool, worsted,  #4 thickness
Double pointed needles size #7
Hook #F
string of bulky yarn (to use as a stitch holder, note: do not use stitch holder as it cannot bend)
Scissors

Knitted Striped Fingerless Gloves

I always loved fingerless gloves. They are great for keeping hands somewhat warm, yet anyone wearing them can perform tasks, like pumping and paying at a gas station, using a key to unlock doors without taking them off. Or if you would keep your temperature inside the house or apartment low, you can still use your computer without having your hands cold.

In my lifetime I made several of these gloves, but this is the first time of publishing them. These gloves fit an adult woman and as you see I made them a bit different different color scheme), yet the same - just for fun.
