A Very Simple Scarf For Beginners >>> Velmi Jednoducha Sala Pro Zacatecniky

This scarf is very simple to knit and perfect for beginners that know how to cast on, make a knit stitch, purl stitch and bind off. The pattern looks complex, but still easy to knit. If you are starting to learn how to knit, I would recommend knitting a scarf with knit stitch only (see other scarf links below). Enjoy.

Material:

  • Yarn: Lion Brand, Vanna's Choice (or any worsted good quality yarn/wool) - 2-3 skeins depending on desired length
  • Knitting Needles -  US size 8 (I used DPN, you can use also regular long knitting needles)

Step-by-Step:

Row 1:          CO 21 stitches
Rows 2-7:      K 20, (with yarn in front of your knit) slip last stitch from your left needle onto your right needle (NOTE: this pattern stitch is called a garter stitch)
Rows 8-17:   K, * [K, P] - repeat from * until last two stitches, then K1, (with yarn in front of your knit) slip last stitch  from your left needle onto your right needle (NOTE: this pattern stitch is called a moss stitch)

After that alternate Rows 2-7 and Rows 8-18 as many times as you wish, that means to your desired length. Finish with rows 2-7 and BO (use knit stitch BO). If you like fringe add some fringe.

I just had a request for 2 inch wider scarf. These 2 inches amount to 8 extra stitches. So below are step-by-step instructions for 7 inch wide scarf:

Row 1:  CO 29 stitches
Rows 2-7:  K 28, (with yarn in front of your knit) slip last stitch from your left needle onto your right needle (NOTE: this stitch is called garter stitch)
Rows 8-17:   K, * [K, P] - repeat from * until last two stitches, then K1, (with yarn in front of your knit) slip last stitch  from your left needle onto your right needle (NOTE: this stitch is called moss stitch)

After that alternate Rows 2-7 and Rows 8-17 as many times as you wish, that means to your desired length. Finish with rows 2-7 and BO  (use knit stitch BO). If you like, add some fringe.
