Dyeing Yarn With Rose Petals And Beets

In the past 3 years, my life has been a little rocky with too many surprises, many of them too sad. As I dedicated my life to our family's problems, I suddenly lost that precious time for my other loves - the art, knitting, crocheting, designing, and recording video tutorials for art/knit/crochet enthusiasts. At last, my life is a little calmer, and I can do fun stuff again.

A while back I have been thinking about coloring yarn. I even bought two bags of yarn - about 4 years ago. Finally, not too long ago I decided to rearrange my ever-growing stash and came across my two kilos (of yarn that is). My old idea of dyeing yarn struck me again.

I pulled one skein out so I could, at last, color it. And so I did. I enjoyed myself doing something I've never done before - picking up rose petals, cooking my dye, and then coloring the skein. I recorded all my steps with a camera, then I edited my recordings into a tutorial video, and I shared it with my followers HERE

Although the experience was wonderful and exciting I was very surprised that the color from the petals wasn't vibrant at all. It turned out more beige with some ever so slight pink undertones. I expected to be a magnificent pink, but the beige color is delightfully pleasing as well. No heartache there.

After this experience, I took a break from "yarn dyeing" and directed my thoughts toward making a gift for my friends who are expecting a baby. I designed and knitted pretty shorts (you can see my post about video tutorials and buying the pattern HERE). I also knitted tiny simple socks to go with these shorts (if you are interested, a video tutorial will be available soon). I hope they will relish this gift. They probably will, they like hand made gifts.

Right before COVID 19 put our country into quarantine, I bought plenty of food - just in case we are not allowed to go out. We ate most of it, but I found a package of beets hiding in the back of the fridge. I usually like to slice and top them over my leafy greens along with some goat cheese and a dab of vinaigrette.

When I wanted to serve them they were already expired. I was like: "Hey, I have another yarn skein waiting in my closet for coloring!" So I marched up into my art-knit-crochet studio, got my yarn, my camera, and started to work on my second coloring project. This project turned out perfect. I am utterly delighted at the softness of the pink and color variegation. You can watch my project video HERE

For my project, I used Knit Picks Yarn. Below is my affiliate link just in case you would like to purchase yarn by clicking on it:

Misti Alpaca Yarn - It Is Sooo Soft

Soooo, the other day I got a box of yarn via snail mail. Yeeey. (There is never enough of yarn for a serious knitter). This yarn is from a company called "Misti Alpaca." Misti Alpaca Yarn is produced in Peru (which I want to visit.) And let me tell you - it is an incredible yarn. Fabulous! Soft!

I just found out they will have a promotional sale until May 15th, 2018 - 40% OFF for the lace yarn - if you use promotional code love4lace at the checkout - your price for 100g of Hand Paint Lace will be $15.60 instead of $26. If interested CLICK HERE to get to the shopping cart, pick the color that you like, use the promotional code love4lace when checking out.

I got few skeins of Tonos Carnaval in several shades (see images below), 2 Chunky Alpaca skeins (incredible softness, I kid you not.) I got few skeins of Hand Paint Lace (very soft, just as the chunky one, because both are 100% baby alpaca), and I got few skeins of Hand Paint Sock (blend of alpaca, merino, silk, and nylon - aaahhhhh).

These yarns are the highest quality of yarn that I ever put in my hands. I love the colors, I love the texture and softness and I cannot wait to work with my "lovey-doveys." I know you may think they are expensive, but for a couple of dollars more than let's say merino yarn it is worth it.

If you want to see my video of Misti Alpaca yarns that I got in the mail (and my excitement too) - CLICK HERE. Otherwise, look at my images below what was in the box. I am already working my brain cells with ideas what I should knit with this precious yarn. Would you like to suggest your ideas what I should demonstrate knitting or crocheting? Comment on Youtube below the video. I may consider it (although I kind of have an idea what I would like to knit and crochet from these yarns.)

I will be waiting for your input on my YouTube Channel or Facebook or Twitter or Instagram.

Peace and Happy Knitting and Crocheting.
