The other day I was going through my closets and I found one sweater I made several years ago for my husband, which he was not wearing anymore. It had a hole in it. It was made from 100% wool, which gave me an idea to felt it and make slippers for my DH. I washed it with towels on hot and when I took it out from the washer I was amazed how small it got - instead of a grown man nearly 6 ft tall it would fit a four year old kid now. I let it dry naturally. I still had some leftovers from my last felt pot holder making so I used that along with my blue shrunk sweater. First I cut out shapes for slippers - for left and right feet. I used his other slippers for my pattern. In the image you can see blue and gray cut outs for soles - that is because I wanted to double it, or make it thicker. Then I used decorative stitch to sew the slippers together. An extra care needs to be taken while sewing pieces together. You may want to pin pieces together if you are not skilled.
Nedavno jsem se prehrabovala ve skrinich a nasla jsem tam svetr, ktery jsem upletla pred nekolika lety pro manzela, a ktery uz nenosi. No bodejd ne, kdyz svetr mel diru. Byl ze 100% vlny, coz me okamzite napadlo udelat mu ze svetru backory. Swetr jsem vyprala v horke vode s rucniky a nechala volne uschnout. Mimo jeho modreho svertu jsem jeste pouzila zbytky ze sediveho svetru, ktery jsem jiz pouzila na vyrobu chnapky. Nejdrive jsem vystrihla z obou svetru tvary. Tvar slapek jsem vystrihla podle jeho pantofli. Slapky jsem vystrihla z modreho i sediveho svertu - chtela jsem je mit dvojite, tlustejsi. Vse jsem sesila dekorativnim stehem. Davala jsem veliky pozor pri sesivani, aby to bylo pokud mozno co nejrovneji sesite. Aby se tvary pri sesivani "nerozjizdely" je potreba je sespendlit dohromady.
I have given my husband many different gifts for his Valentine - a chocolate heart, a bottle of really good wine, and even the painting I painted myself. This year I decided to make a pot holder for him.
Do you have a mate that has never seen kitchen his entire life? Is he afraid that he might burn himself while cooking a delicious meal for his loved ones and that's why he is staying out of this very important room? Do you want to lure him there? Well, you may try to convince him by a-hand-made-pot-holder-especially-made-for-him. The Valentine's Day is just around the corner and that could motivate him to cook a scrumptious meal for you in return for this fabulous hand made item. Perhaps, each time he holds it in his hand he will tell himself: "The dearest person to my heart made this and she put lots of love into it. It is time for me to go to our kitchen again and do a good deed." Well, even if it sound like a fairytale, I think this pot holder will fit your hand also.
PS. I do not want to sound too bias. You can change the word "he" for "she" if you are male.
What will you need? An old 100% wool sweater shrunk so much, that no one fits in it anymore. Scissors, big sewing needle, 100% wool in complimentary color to the sweater. With little patience and skill you can make a thick pot holder that you will be able to use on pots with boiling water (pasta) or taking cooking sheets from a very hot oven.
Step-by-Step Directions:
1. From the sweater cut out two rectangles aproximately 6 in. x 15 in. (the rectangles could be wider and longer, but this one fits on regular hand)
2. Place both rectangles on top of each other (line them up very well) and using a blanket stictch sew the two edges together. It will give your edge decorative feel. Do not make stitches tight, because when you wash your pot holder, the stitches will shrink.
3. After your short sides have been sewn, fold the rectangle in half and do the same for the sides. Only this time you will work through four layers.
4. Crochet a chain from wool (double thread) for a loop.
5. Wash in hot water, air dry by placing it on the towel.
Note: If you wish make some decoration, sew it on top of one rectangle before you start sewing the pot holder.

Mozna pokazde, kdyz se na chnapku podiva nebo kdyz ji bude drzet v ruce, tak si rekne: "Nejmilejsi osoba meho zivota vyrobila tuto chnapku s velikou laskou. Je cas jit opet do nasi kuchyne delat dobre skutky." A jestli to zni jako pohadka, nezoufejte. Tato chnapka urcite padne i na vasi dlan jako ulita.
PS. Nechci znit zaujate proti muzum, ctenar si muze zensky rod zamenit za muzsky a naopak.
Takze, co potrebujete? Stary seprany vlneny svetr, ktery jiz nikdo nemuze nosit. Nuzky, velkou jehlu, a 100% vlnu v barve, ktera ladi se svetrem. S trochou trpelivosti a sikovnosti vytvorite hrubou chnapku, kterou lze pouzit na prenaseni velmi horkych hrncu, nebo na vyndavani plechu z trouby.
Postup:
1. Ze svetru si ustrihneme 2 obdelniky priblizne 16 cm x 40 cm (muze byt i sirsi a delsi, ale toto jsou miry pro stredne velikou ruku)
2. Obdelniky polozime na sebe a obsijeme obe kratsi strany dvojitou vlnou (sesivate dve vrstvy). Pri sesivani pouzijte dekorativni steh, tolik typicky pro detske deky. Pozor - steh neutahujte, ponevadz se po vyprani vlneny steh srazi.
3. Po sesiti kratkych stran, prelozte obdelnik na polovinu a sesijte strany stejnym stylem. Pouze nyni budete pracovat se ctyrmi vrstvami.
4. Uhackujte poutko z dvojite vlny a prisijte.
5. Vyperte v horke vode a nechte uschnout na rozlozenem rucniku.
One of my friends introduced me to knitted felt purse making. You already saw my very first knitted felt purse that I posted not too long ago. After I created the first one I decided to make another one - my own design. I had in my closet a 100% wool that I bought on sale and never used it. Since I had just one kind, which was multicolor (black-dark blue-medium blue colors), I was thinking: "How would I make the purse interesting, since the color is so boring?" I decided to make my purse small, more like an accessory then a purse. I wanted it to be small, yet big enough to fit in my cell phone, car keys, driver license and credit card or money. And I wanted it to have it over the shoulder. I thought that rectangular shape would be perfect. But this rectangular shape would be too boring in my opinion, so I decided to give it a twist as you see to the left.
Later on, another friend saw my purse and she loved the shape, but was not crazy about the color. Since her birthday was coming up, I told her I will knit the similar purse for her and that she can chose colors.She chose red and black. When you look at the image of a second purse you can see the flap much better. Also the handle is longer, because my friend wanted the purse to hang low.
Approximate Step-by-Step directions:
1. Cast on 50 stitches. It depends how wide you want your purse. Knit like you would knit a sock - just all around. When your length is long enough start decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together until you have only 4 stitches - create about 3-5 inches tube like "string. You will continue to crochet a little ball that you will stuff with white fluff stuffing or anything that you will find at home suitable.
2. The flap: cast on directly on the "opening" of the purse - 25 stitches (1/2 of the stiches from the purse body) and after 4 rows start decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together. When you have 4 stitches left, create again same tube like string with a ball on the end.
3. The shoulder strap can be crocheted with the thickness of 4 strings and tied to the sides of the purse. If you prefer wider strap, you can knit a strap of your desired width and sew it onto your purse.
Wash the finished purse in hot water.

Nize je jeste jina verze priblizneho stylu, kterou jsem vytvorila pozdeji, pouze trochu jiny navrh.
Jedna z mych kamaradek mi jednoho dne ukazala jeji kabelku, kterou vytvorila z vlny. Me to moc nadchlo a samozrejme jsem to musela take okamzite vyzkouset. Moji uplne prvni kabelku jste jiz videli. Pozdeji jsem vsak chtela vytvorit neco meho, neco co bych ja navrhla. Otevrela jsem skrin a nasla tam 100% vlnu, kterou jsem koupila ve sleve. Vlna mela zihanou barvu (cerna-tmave modra-stredne modra) a ja jsem tedy chtela utvorit kabelku, ktera by mela alespon zajimavy tvar, kdyz uz ne barvu. Kabelku jsem chtela malou, tak akorat na mobil, na klice, na ridicak a kreditni kartu ci penize. Navic jsem chtela kabelku pres rameno. Chtela jsem zajimavou kabelku, tak jsem dala obdelnikovemu tvaru me kabelky netradicni tvar.
Pozdeji jsem sla navstivit jednu kamaradku a moc se ji kabelka libila. Ponevadz se blizily jeji narozeniny, tak jsem ji rekla, ze ji kabelku upletu, at si vybere barvy. Vybrala si cervenou a cernou. Na teto kombinaci je lepe videt zapinani (poklop) kabelky. Navic reminek na rameno je delsi, ponevadz kamaradka si jej prala dlouhy.
Priblizny Postup:
Zacala jsem asi na 50 ocek. Pletla jsem dokola na 5 jehlicich, jako kdybych pletla ponozky. Az jsem mela dostatecnou delku, zacala jsem spletat 2 ocka dohromady. Kdyz jsem mela 4 ocka na jehlicich, tak jsem upletla snurku, ktera vypadala jako trubicka. na konci jsem pak uhackovala bambulku a vycpala.
Zapinani (klopu) kabelky jsem upletla tim stylem, ze jsem nahodila 25 ocek (presnou polovinu) primo na ram kabelky. Upletla jsem 4 rady a zacala jsem opet ubirat po 2 ockach. kdyz mi zbyly 4 ocka, upletla jsem opet tubicku a uhackovala bambulku jako u kabelky.
"Remen" pres rameno muzete uhackovat ze 4 spojenych vln (snurek) do delky podle vaseho uvazeni, pak provleknout po strane kabelky a udelat uzel. Nebo uplest sirsi pruh opet do delky vaseho uvazeni a prisit ke strane kabelky.
One day I was having dinner with my husband and while we were sipping a nice chilled wine I imagined a felted cover for the wine bottle, so it would help keep wine cold longer, without using the ice bucket. Of course I am a person that starts imagining things and while I was enjoying our meal, wine and presence of my husband, I designed in my head the cover for our wine bottle.
However, if I will make another cover some day, it will have a bottom and a zipper at the top, so it will be easy to slip the bottle in. This cover does not have a bottom so it could be slipped on from the top and when it is being used a person pouring the wine has to be careful so bottle bottle does not slip out.
My friend liked this wine cover very much, so I gave it to her. I hope she is having fun with it when she is entertaining her guests. The cover on the top is the cover before it was felted (shrunk in the hot water) and the other image is after it has been shrunk. This certainly makes a nice gift. Jednoho dne jsme sedeli s manzelem na terase, jedli veceri a popijeli vinecko a ja jsem najednou zacala premyslet o tom, ze bych mohla vytvorit "kabatek" na lahev vina, aby vinecko v teplem pocasi zustalo dele studene, pokud clovek nechce pouzivat nadobu s ledem. Ponevadz jsem osoba, co porad premysli a vymysli, tak jsem ve spolecnosti meho manzela a dobre vecere s vineckem vymyslela tento "kabatek".
Tento kabatek se nasouva na lahev s vrchu, ale kdybych chtela vytvorit jiny, tak asi vytvorim povlek ktery bude mit dno a zip, aby jsem mohla lahev zasunout do "kabatku", misto "kabatek" na lahev.
Moji kamaradce se "kabatek" na lahev velmi libil, tak jsem ji ho dala. A ja doufam, ze ho pouziva, kdyz ma na navsteve hosty. Ten "kabatek" na prvni fotce je pred "srazenim" a druha fotografie je konecny vysledek. Kdyby mel nekdo zajem o takovyto darek, napiste mi do komentare. Kdyby byla cena prijatelna, vyrobila bych vam podobny.

It is very simple in design, yet it draws attention. Many people stopped me to ask me about this purse. I am quite sorry I cannot share Step-by-Step directions with my readers, because I made this purse few years back and I didn not pen down the directions. I thought that since it is quite simple design it can inspire someone to create something similar. However if someone is really interested in Step-by-Step, let me know via comments and I will try to figure it out.
Tuto kabelku jsem vytvorila (upletla ze 100% vlny a vyprala v horke vode) pred par lety. Je velmi jednoducha designem a i pres to me lide zastavuji a vyptavaji se me, jak jsem to udelala. Jen je skoda, ze jsem si nenapsala postup prace. Kabelku jsem tu dala pro inspiraci ctenarum techto webovych stranek. Kdyby ale pres to nekdo mel zajem o postup prace, dejte mi vedet.
