Adult Lacy Hat - Free Pattern

I am into lacy hats these days. I guess it is because we no longer have winter, but still we have cool weather - well, at least in my area. This hat was a pleasure to design and knit, and it came out really nice. I will be making this hat to sell in boutiques and on-line, so I am sharing this pattern only for your PERSONAL use.

Size:
Circumference: 17" flat, but stretches to 22"
Height: 7.5"

Material:
I used Aunt Lydia's 100% Viscose from Bamboo, color "Natural"
long needles size 8
4 double pointed needles size 9
hook F/5 (3.75 mm)

DPN - double pointed needle
CO - cast on
sts - stitches
K - knit
K2tog - knit two together (knit-wise)
SSK - slip knit wise 2 stitches and then knit them together
K3tog - slip one stitch knit-wise, then Knit next two stitches together and then pass slipped stitch over (this is left leaning decrease)
YO - yarn over
BO - bind off

Gauge:
1" x 1" = 5 sts x 8 rows

Step-by-Step Directions

Row 1          CO 72 sts on long needles
Row 2          *[K1, P1]* - repeat from * to * around; then transfer stitches to 3 DPNs (each DPN will have 24 sts), and without twisting your knit join into a circle
Row 3-9       *[K1, P1]* - repeat from * to * around
Row 10-11   K72
Note: in 11th row, place a marker in the middle of each DPN to separate 24 sts in half = you will work with 12 sts repeatedly

You will start the pattern now - which you will repeat 2 more times (3 times total)

Row 12      *[K2tog, K3, SSK, K2, YO, K1, YO, K2*] - repeat from * to * around (for each set of 12 sts)
Row 13      K72
Row 14      *[K1, K2tog, K1, SSK, K2, YO, K3, YO, K1*] - repeat from * to * around (for each set of 12 sts)
Row 15      K72
Row 16       *[K2, K3tog, K2, YO, K5, YO]* - repeat from * to * around (for each set of 12 sts);
Note: when you make YO at the end of each DPN, make sure you do not drop it when you have to knit it in 17th row!
Row 17      K72
Row 18     *[K1, SSK, K2, YO, K1, YO, K2, K2tog, K2]* - repeat from * to * around (for each set of 12 sts)
Row 19     K72
Row 20    *[SSK, K2, YO, K3, YO, K2, K2tog, K1]* - repeat from * to * around (for each set of 12 sts)
Row 21    K72
Row 22    *[K2, YO, K5, YO, K2, K3tog]* - repeat from * to * around (for each set of 12 sts)
Row 23    K72

Repeat Rows 12-23 two more times, you will end up with Row 47. In row 48 you can remove your 3 markers.

Row 48    K72
Row 49    *[K2tog]* - repeat from * to * around; you will decrease by half = you should have 36 sts
Row 50    K36
Row 51    *[K2tog]* - repeat from * to * around; you will decrease by half = you should have 18 sts
Row 52    K18
Row 53   *[K2tog]* - repeat from * to * around; you will decrease by half = you should have 9 sts
Row 54   BO by pulling last st through all other sts with a hook, make one last slip stitch and weave in both ends

Enjoy and Happy knitting :-)
