Pink Hat For A Newborn - Free Pattern

Here is one fairly simple hat for a newborn girl. If you change the color and do not use a flower this hat can be knitted for a boy too.
You need to know - cast on, bind off, knit stitch, purl stitch, and knit two stitches together.
Enjoy.

Size:
Circumference: 12" (stretches to 14 inches)
Height: 4.75"

Material:
Aunt Lydia's 100% Viscose from Bamboo, Coral color - triple folded thread/yarn
long needles size 5
4 double pointed needles size 5
hook D/3 (3.25 mm)

Gauge:
1" x 1" = 5 sts x 8 rows

Abbreviations:
DPN - double pointed needle
CO - cast on
sts - stitches
K - knit
K2tog - knit two together (knit-wise)
BO - bind off


Step-by-Step Directions

Row 1          CO 64 sts on long needles
Row 2          *[K1, P1]* - repeat from * to * throughout the entire row, then transfer stitches to 3 DPNs and without twisting your knit join into a circle
Row 3-6       *[K1, P1]* - repeat from * to * throughout the entire row
Row 7-9       K64
Row 10        P64

Row 11-14   K64
Row 15        P64

Row 16-19   K64

Row 34        *[K2tog]* - repeat from * to * through out the entire row

Row 42      BO by pulling last stitche through all remaining stitches, make a knot (slip) stitch and weave in both ends. Decorate with a flower.
