High Waisted "Pinkie" Shorts For Baby - FREE Pattern

These high waisted shorts were supposed to be knitted only as diaper covers. But then I had enough left over yarn and I started to knit some more.... And now it is a set.
It is a perfect outfit for Fall weather. Dress your baby in a white shirt/blouse and white tights and then pair it with these body hugging "Pinkie Shorts". If it is windy outside then put "Pinkie Leg Warmers" on baby's legs, dress your baby's head with matching "Pinkie Hat", and you are set to go and explore the world. (Hmmm, I should probably design a vest or a sweater to go with it.)

So, if you would like to knit this outfit all you need to know is:

  • How to knit on double pointed and/or circular needles
  • How to cast on and bind off
  • How to do these stitches - knit, purl, yarn over, make one, and knit two together

Size:
3-6 months old

Material:
Lion Brand, Vanna's Choice; medium worsted #4; 100% acrylic; 3.5 oz (100 g), 170 yrd (156 m); 1 ball of pink color, 1 ball of charcoal gray color
knitting needles #9 (5.5 mm) - long needles, double pointed needles or long circular needles (to knit using magic loop technique)
hook/yarn needle (for weaving in the ends/tails)

Abbreviations:

CO - cast on
K - knit
P - purl
YO - yarn over
K2tog - knit 2 stitches together
M1 - make a stitch by picking up a loop from the front between two stitches and knitting into the back of it, OR picking up a loop from the back between two stitches and knitting it knitwise - which ever is easy for you
BO - bind off

Gauge:
4" x 4" = 16 sts x 22 rows (stockinette)
